Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Vonn underwent a titanium prosthesis installed in her right knee during her hiatus from the sport.

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of securing a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She has one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
