Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
